Matt is the Chief of the Illinois Attorney General’s Privacy Unit. He spends the majority of his time focusing on and supervising the office’s privacy, data security, and data breach related investigations and litigation. He functions as both the lead and co-lead attorney for many national multistate investigations into many of the largest data breach settlements to date. Since joining the office, his leadership role has assisted in achieving several of the largest nationwide data breach settlements in history. Matt leads the National Association of Attorneys General Privacy Working Group, on both privacy and identity theft. He received a B.A. from Bradley University and a J.D. from the Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. He is an active member in the International Association of Privacy Professionals, holding the CIPP/US certification, and a Section leader to the ABA Federal and State Privacy Legislation Task Force.
