Ellen is a Group Leader at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD, where her primary responsibility is to manage the Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) project, a workshop series that develops methodology and infrastructure for evaluating search systems. Prior to joining NIST, she was a member of the research staff at Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton, NJ. Ellen is an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval (ACM SIGIR) and the Association for Computational Linguistics, and has published numerous articles on information retrieval techniques and evaluation.
