Mike is a partner in the Denver office of Hogan & Hartson, LLP, where he focuses on healthcare fraud litigation and counseling, federal and state False Claims Act litigation, government investigations, and white collar criminal defense for clients in the healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical and education industries. Mike served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and the Health Care Fraud Coordinator for the District of Colorado from 1997 to 2005. During that time he handled investigations and prosecutions of health care fraud, federal anti-kickback offenses, and violations of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, including multi-district investigations of off-label marketing and kickback cases in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and litigation of civil False Claims Act suits involving hospitals, clinical laboratories, nursing facilities and therapy providers. From 1988 to 1997, Mike was a Trial Attorney in the civil fraud section of the Department of Justice where he handled False Claims Act and qui tam litigation in federal trial and appellate courts. He has been awarded the Department of Justice Special Commendation for Outstanding Service, the Attorney General's Special Achievement Award, and the Department of Heath and Human Services Inspector General's Integrity Award, and has lectured on health care fraud enforcement for the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute, the ABA National Institute on Health Care Fraud, and the Food and Drug Law Institute.
