Rob is the Founding Director of Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, PLLC, a 300+ person intellectual property law firm that is located in Washington, D.C. He is a recognized expert in best practices for intellectual property, Board responsibility for IP, and the CIPO. He specializes in IP issues in electronics, computers, telecommunications, Internet, e-commerce, and business method technology areas and has represented many start up and emerging companies on such matters as well as several of the largest electronics companies worldwide. Rob is internationally recognized as an expert on software and business method patents, having been the lead attorney for IBM in the Federal Circuit test case, In re Beauregard (1995), that led to the USPTO Software Patent Guidelines. He was the lead patent lawyer for Teleflex at the U.S. Supreme Court inKSR v. Teleflex. An electrical engineer by training with BSEE and MS degrees from Tufts University as well as a JD from the University of Maryland Law School and advanced legal training from the George Washington National Law Center, Rob is a registered U.S. patent attorney and a member of the bar of Maryland and of the District of Columbia.
