Tom is the North American Coordinator of his firm's E-Commerce practice, and has been actively involved in developing e-commerce legal policy both in the U.S. and globally. He chaired the Illinois Commission on Electronic Commerce and Crime, and drafted the Illinois Electronic Commerce Security Act. He is a member of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), where he participates in the Working Group on Electronic Commerce. Mr. Smedinghoff also chairs the Electronic Commerce Division of the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law. He is the editor and primary author of the e-commerce book titled Online Law.
