Mark D. Schuman

Mark is a patent litigation partner at Merchant & Gould Minneapolis and Chair of AIPLA's Patent Litigation Committee. His experience includes litigation involving electronic circuitry, mechanical devices, optics, surface roughness, chemical compositions, adhesives, software and pharmaceutical drugs. He headed ANDA litigation over the drugs Prilosec®, Protonix®, Zantac® oral solution, Axert®, and Nitro-Dur®. Mark has a keen interest in litigation automation, serving as chair of Merchant & Gould's automation steering committee and on the automation steering committee of the Minnesota Federal District Court. He filed the first inter partes hypertext brief to be accepted by the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Mark served as the technical law clerk to the Hon. Daniel M. Friedman at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Northwestern University, and a J.D from University of Wisconsin, where he was editor of the law review and member of the Order of the Coif.
