Ed has been head of Sidley Austin's West Coast Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group in the Los Angeles office since 2000. He practices primarily in the area of patent, trade secret and trademark litigation, including jury trials and proceedings before the International Trade Commission ("ITC"). As lead counsel for large and small companies and non-profit institutions, he has successfully litigated patents across a wide spectrum of technologies. He has been involved in arbitration proceedings before the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce and in special patent litigation proceedings under the United States Atomic Energy Act. His litigation experience is complemented by experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications and licensing technology ranging from software and electronics to biotechnology. In 2003 and 2005 California Daily Law Journal surveys of companies and lawyers identified Ed as one of the top 30 intellectual property lawyers in California, and he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Before joining the firm, Ed was a partner at the law firm of Pretty, Schroeder & Poplawski.
