Ray is a member of the boards of directors of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and a number of other technology companies and nonprofit organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California and Earthjustice. He is the immediate Past Chair of the ABA's Section of Science & Technology Law, where he served in various officer capacities and as chair of the Section's Electronic Commerce Division, its Internet & Cyberspace Committee and its Multimedia & Interactive Technologies Committee. His works include Surfing the Law and Technology Tsunami (ABA 2001). Before retiring in November, 1996, Mr. Ocampo was Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary at Oracle Corporation, where he served as its chief legal counsel in the decade during which the company's annual revenues grew from $50 million to $5 billion.
