Ray is a partner in the IP Department of McDermott's Washington office and concentrates his practice primarily in the litigation of complex patent cases. He began his legal career as an Associate Solicitor in the U.S. Patent Office in 1968 and represented the Patent Office in over 100 appeals before leaving in 1977 to become Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Patents at the Department of Energy. Since going into private practice in 1980, Ray has led trial teams in numerous patent cases before the district courts and the International Trade Commission and has continued a very active practice before the Federal Circuit. He is co-author of Patent Litigation and Strategy.
