Ray is a partner at McDermott Will & Emery where he served as the Head of the IP Department for over 10 years. He began his legal career as an Associate Solicitor in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 1969. Since presenting his first appellate argument in that year, Ray has been counsel of record before the U.S. Court of Appeals for The Federal Circuit and its predecessor Court in over 100 appeals. He has been lead trial counsel in more than 70 patent infringement cases before the district courts and the ITC. Ray taught patent infringement law and strategy for nine years at the George Washington University Law School. He has also acted on occasion as an arbitrator or mediator. Ray is highly rated in Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Law Dragon, and Best Lawyers in America and was recognized by Super Lawyers as one of the Top 100 lawyers in Washington, D.C. in 2007.
