Charles A. James
U.S. Dept. of Justice, Antitrust Division, Washington, D.C.
Mr. James is the Asst. Atty. General in charge of the Antitrust
Division at the U.S. Dept. of Justice. Prior to his recent appointment, Mr.
James practiced law at the Jones Day Washington office, where he chaired
the firm's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice. His practice
concentrated on the antitrust aspects of mergers, acquisitions and joint
ventures, particularly in the telecommunications, health, information
technology, and financial services industries. He joined the FTC after law
school and served there from 1979-1985, including as Assistant to the
Director of the FTC's Bureau of Competition (1983-1985). In 1985, Mr.
James joined Jones Day, where he practiced until 1989, when he joined the
first Bush administration Antitrust Division, serving as a Deputy Asst. Atty.
General; he served as Acting Asst. Atty. General in 1992. Mr. James
returned to his practice at Jones Day in 1992 until his recent appointment
and confirmation.
