Joan D. Humes
Medtronic, Inc., Minnetonka, MN

Joan serves as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Investigations at Medtronic, Inc. She provides strategic direction, leadership, and advice on complex litigation matters and government investigations for Medtronic's legal department. Before joining Medtronic, Joan was General Counsel for the Public and Senior Markets Group at UnitedHealth Group, where she was responsible for leading the legal and program integrity functions for AmeriChoice and Ovations. She was an Assistant United States Attorney and Civil Chief for the United States Attorneys' Office in the District of Minnesota. Joan clerked for Hon. James M. Rosenbaum, United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. She was a Special Assistant Attorney General at the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. Joan taught at the University of Minnesota Law School, William Mitchell College of Law, and Hamline University School of Law. While with the Department of Justice, Joan was awarded the Executive Offices of United States Attorneys' Director's Award for Superior Performance, the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award, and the Department of Health and Human Services' Inspector General's Integrity Award. She currently serves on the University of Minnesota Law School Board of Advisors and the Illusion Theater Board.
