Judge Garbis has been a United States District Judge for the District of Maryland in Baltimore since 1989. Prior to his appointment, Judge Garbis was a public defender in Washington, DC, an assistant U.S. Attorney, and in private practice engaged in criminal and civil trials throughout the United States. He is the co-chair of the ALI-ABA course on Patent Trials and is a frequent speaker in professional educational programs in the intellectual property field in the United States and abroad. Judge Garbis has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, his JD from Harvard Law School and an LLM in Litigation from Georgetown University Law School.
