Judge Carroll served as a United States Magistrate Judge in the Middle District of Alabama for over 14 years. He is a former member of the U.S. Judicial Conference Committee on the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and is former chair of its Discovery Subcommittee. Judge Carroll is currently Dean and Professor of Law at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, Birmingham, AL, where he teaches Federal Courts and Complex Litigation. He is a frequent presenter at educational programs relating to federal courts, primarily on issues relating to the discovery of electronic materials.
