Sharon R. Barner

Sharon is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Department. She is a leading attorney in the field of intellectual property, having tried dozens of patent litigation matters, including obtaining judgment of $154 million against the U.S. Government; representing Pioneer Hibred/DuPont in genetic seed litigation; and obtaining dismissal of patent claims against MLB Advanced Media in a seminal opinion on patent ownership. In January 2008, Sharon spearheaded the opening of her firm's office in Shanghai, China. Also in 2008, she was selected as one of "The 50 Most Influential Lawyers in America" by The National Law Journal. Sharon has been featured as a top intellectual property lawyer in leading magazines, including Black Enterprise Magazine (November 2003), Diversity and the Bar (May/June 2003) and in "Patent Plums: Who's Enforcing the Most Important Patents," IP Law & Business (August 2001). She was also selected as an Illinois "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics Media, Inc. for her intellectual property litigation work in 2005-2008. Sharon was named in the top 50 Illinois Women "Super Lawyers" in 2006-2008.
