Tom started his career with the U.S. Dept. of Justice Patent Section, from 1949-1951. From 1951-1956 he was a litigator and had a general commercial practice. In 1957, he founded what became a firm of 160 IP lawyers in 5 cities, which then merged with Howrey & Simon into Howrey Simon Arnold & White, with 600 lawyers in the US and other countries. Tom's firm is likely second to none, anywhere, in terms of the number of lawyers doing IP work. Over the last 12 years, Tom has studied, taught, written books and articles on ADR and performed as mediator and arbitrator. He is the former President of the AIPLA, ABA IP Section, LES, AA White Dispute Resolution Institute, and the HIPLA. Tom has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law teaching IP law and ADR.
